WASHINGTON – The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), the global voice of the tech sector, released the following statement from Vice President for Government Affairs Vince Jesaitis on the bipartisan Developing Innovation and Growing the Internet of Things (DIGIT) Act introduced today in the U.S. Senate:

"The Internet of Things (IoT) has the potential to increase efficiencies and productivity, address important societal challenges, and create jobs in a new economy which is expected to grow to more than $2 trillion by 2025," Jesaitis said. "The U.S. government can play an important role in fostering IoT development and leveraging its related benefits with a cohesive approach to promoting, enabling, and adopting new technologies. Alternatively, an uncoordinated, and siloed approach to IoT will drive leadership in this space elsewhere. That is why we support the bipartisan Developing Innovation and Growing the Internet of Things (DIGIT) Act directing relevant federal agencies to create recommendations that will ensure full development of the IoT. We commend Senators Ayotte, Booker, Fischer, and Schatz for their continued leadership on these issues, and look forward to working with them to advance this legislation."

ITI has been engaging with policymakers on emerging IoT technologies, testifying before Congress and even calling for the development of a Strategic National IoT Plan.
