WASHINGTON – Today, global tech trade association ITI’s President and CEO Jason Oxman issued the following statement in advance of President Biden’s anticipated Executive Order on securing U.S. supply chains:

“The U.S. government and industry must work together to achieve the trusted, secure, and reliable global supply chain that is necessary to encourage economic growth, protect national security, and harness U.S. innovation. Our industry is committed to working with the administration and the U.S. Congress to develop long-term, coordinated solutions to address global supply chain challenges that avoid picking winners and losers in the marketplace.

“We commend President Biden’s timely action to address this critical issue and his commitment to working with industry and external stakeholders. Such steps can make the U.S. – and ultimately global – supply chains more resilient and the U.S. more competitive. The whole-of-government assessment called for by the EO also provides a welcome opportunity to review additional executive actions related to the supply chain from the prior administration with a particular focus on understanding their impact on economic competitiveness, including the outstanding information and communications technology and services supply chain interim final rule. In addition to this EO, President Biden also should address the urgent semiconductor shortage by fully funding the CHIPS for America Act in the administration’s upcoming budget request.”

Earlier this month, ITI sent a letter to President Biden asking him to fully fund the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) for America Act provisions in his upcoming budget request, underscoring that any action taken in response to the chips demand should not pick winners or losers. ITI also joined a multi-association letter to the president regarding the chips shortage, and published a blog post on the issue.

In January, ITI outlined an agenda to drive U.S. global competitiveness, which included recommendations on ensuring supply chain resiliency.
