WASHINGTON – Today, ITI, the global voice of the tech sector, issued the following statement in reaction to President Trump’s Executive Order entitled “Securing the Information and Communications Technology and Services Supply Chain.”

“A trusted, secure, and reliable global supply chain is necessary to support innovation and economic growth,” said Jason Oxman, ITI’s President and CEO. “The global tech sector respects and takes seriously the U.S. government’s obligation to protect national security, and we recognize the need to mitigate risks to global information and communications technology (ICT) supply chains. Any decision to ban or otherwise restrict ICT products or services from private sector supply chains should be based in rigorous, evidence-based analysis of the risks and involve close coordination with the private sector to identify and mitigate risks. The Executive Order as written is extremely broad and would sweep all ICT equipment and services into its scope, and as such we are still analyzing the potential unintended impacts of the order on the tech industry, consumers, and innovation. We urge the administration, including the Department of Commerce, to run an open and transparent process and to work with industry as it moves forward with implementing this Executive Order to ensure that it furthers the important national security imperatives underlying the action while minimizing potential unintended impacts.”
