DELHI – Ahead of the meeting between Indian Prime Minister Modi and European Union leaders in Porto on 8 May, global tech trade association the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) is highlighting the importance of digital trade and multilateral engagement as part of the discussion on the future of the EU-India relationship.

The European Union and India are key partners for the tech sector and the global digital economy, said ITI’s Kumar Deep, Country Manager for India. “We hope that the upcoming summit leads to renewed talks to eliminate trade barriers for information and communications technology goods and services, including through the reduction of barriers to digital trade and cross-border data flows. Further, we urge the EU and India to commit to enhanced multilateral cooperation to find solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing the global economy, including climate change and technology solutions to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The summit is the first meeting of the EU and India’s respective leaders since the 15th India-EU Summit in July 2020.
